FAQs

Will my insurance cover the cost of hearing aids?

No matter what your insurance is, we can help you determine whether your hearing aid will be covered. Find out more about insurance and financing through Hearing Doctors of Kansas.

What causes hearing loss?

Hearing loss can be caused by many issues, including:

  • Noise exposure
  • Certain medications
  • Recurrent ear infections
  • Fluid in the middle ear
  • Smoking
  • Hereditary factors

Learn more about the potential causes.

How often should I have my hearing tested?

It is generally recommended that your hearing be tested annually if you:

  • Work in noise
  • Are over the age of 65
  • Have a family history of hearing loss
  • Have tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
  • Have a history of ear-related medical issues

How much do hearing aids cost?

Your doctor will make an exact recommendation, including cost, during your visit. Learn more about the cost of hearing aids.

Are all hearing aids digital?

Nearly all hearing aids dispensed by our doctors are digital. Digital hearing aids allow us to control and adjust the hearing aid more specifically to the individual. The older (analog) hearing aids are nearly extinct.

What is a cochlear implant?

A cochlear implant is a surgically implanted medical device specifically designed for patients with hearing that does not respond to hearing aids. Patients who qualify for cochlear implants have severe or profound hearing loss, and do not benefit from power hearing aids.

Can I try out hearing aids without risk?

Yes. When getting fitted for a new hearing aid, all our patients are placed on a 30-day, no-cost hearing aid trial. This allows you to use your hearing aids without financial obligation until you see the difference. Hearing aids can be returned within the trial period at no cost to our patients.

How has hearing aid technology improved?

Hearing aid technology is constantly changing and providing better solutions for our patients. Since digital hearing aids became available in the late 1990s, we have seen great improvements in the following areas:

  • Feedback (whistling) control is much better and, in some cases, eliminated
  • Sound clarity
  • Appearance
  • Hearing over background noise is much improved over the last 10 years
